Derecho a la tierra y la vivienda: Barrio Nuevo San Jorge

“El Lord said: I'm down to deliver them ...
them out of this land for
take them to a fertile and spacious land flowing with milk and honey
"(Ex 3, 8)

A large group of young families from of Barrio San Jorge and environs, most homeless own a property abandoned took approximately 5 hectares, located some 100 meters from the site of St. George Parish Florencio Varela.
These families camped on Saturday 12 February last, were evacuated that day by police. They returned on Monday 14 at night and again they were evicted from the premises. Some of these families days ago were swindled by a retired deputy, it being unable to prove ownership of land, was charged for alleged fraud in the local prosecutor. This crook had charged $ 2000.00 initial shares, giving each family a receipt without any legal value. During the week
opened channels for dialogue with the municipality and the police. Through the agreements were established:
• The municipality undertook to find out in the Land Registry of Property of the Province of Buenos Aires the ownership of those lots, to place the true owner and make an offer to purchase.
· The neighbors will remain in place with their tents until Thursday 24 February, this day will be a meeting between the neighborhood committee has been formed and officers of the Municipality.
On Wednesday 16 February a group of seated people came to the parish for help and support for this claim to land and housing. There was a meeting of legal advice the next day in the parish seat to the lawyer José Luis Caligaris the Center for Popular Participation Bishop Angelelli operating in the Barrio Villa Argentina, adjacent to San Jorge. From that time the parish decided to follow at times the organizational process. I share some images
the celebration of the Eucharist that we had this Sunday afternoon on the farm. In the same two texts proclaimed the Word of God: Exodus 3, 7-12 and Mark 6, 30-44. And we share the reflection from two questions: What attitudes favor the process of organizing the struggle for land and housing? How do we recognize God's presence in this process? At the end of the celebration was blessed the families present and the earth. At that time people wanted to name the neighborhood and to the image of St. George who was present gave the name of Barrio Nuevo San Jorge ". Sealing this baptism with loud applause ended the celebration. The image of St. George remain present at Mass on the property as evidence of the beginning of struggle and hope for the right to land and housing.
